My overall objective in research and teaching is the development of integrated software architectures for a holistic assessment of environmental systems under changing climate, land-use and management. Here, my focus is on the development and maintenance of the Jena Adaptable Modelling System (JAMS), a modular modelling system for the design and application of adapted environmental models (e.g. hydrological models, nutrient models). This also covers the implementation of methods for the time-efficient processing of large data sets using parallel computing, service-based modelling, and the analysis and visualization of spatio-temporal model outputs. Another topic of my research is the development of web-based environmental information systems and their coupling with environmental models to create model-driven decision support systems. Throughout all of my work, a guiding principle of is the seamless and user-friendly integration of the abovementioned components while making use of open-source software and open standards.
