Yanjun Shen

CSC scholar

I graduated from Hebei Normal University in China with a Bachelor's degree in Geographical science and gained my master's degree in Ecology from the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2013. My previous research topics include application of Remote Sensing and GIS in agriculture for drought assessment, modeling of evapotranspiration, hydrological modeling and analysis of groundwater level variation. Also, I had some field survey experience.
With the help of China Scholarship Council (CSC), I joined the GIScience Group in Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena in 2013. As a current Ph.D. student, my research is about "comparative impact assessment and modelling analysis of river basins in NW-China and Tibet applying the ILMS approach". These semi-arid alpine basins already suffer from climate change which is obvious from measured meteorological time series data. I am looking forward to learning about hydrological modeling and improving my research skills and further developing a deep understanding of hydrological response to climate change in ungauged alpine region using ILMS approaches, and also learn how to assess them for use in water management.

I hope gain as many achievements and experiences in this field as possible, and I like study and live in Jena.

Key research areas

  • Hydrological modelling und system analysis
  • Application of GIS and remote sensing technologies
  • Kaidu River Basin Information System (Link: http://leutra.geogr.uni-jena.de/kaiduRBIS/metadata/start.php)
