Welcome to the website of the GIScience Group
Geoinformation has become an invaluable resource in many fields within public administration, business and environmental research. They become an important basis for decision making when combined with the methodological tools required for the analysis and management of geoinformation and environmental process modeling.
The Chair of Geographic Information Science (GIScience) at Friedrich Schiller University, Jena, Germany is dedicated to advancing research related to the development and application of geographic information technologies and spatial models. Research at the Chair focuses on environmental modeling using empirical and process-based models, the development of specialized software tools, and environmental monitoring. The developed methods and software are applied in study areas worldwide through international collaboration and in externally funded projects.
Courses offered by the Chair provide training in GIS, GIScience and environmental statistics for undergraduate and graduate students of Geography as well as for the Master's program in GIScience, which is jointly offered by the Chairs of GIScience and Remote Sensing.
