Environmental Modeling Software & Data Management at the Chair of GIScience deals with the Development of innovative methods and software systems for the mathematical simulation of environmental processes and the management of environmental information. The development of interfaces that allow an integration of both components is a further focus topic of research and application in this area. Whenever possible, the implementation is done based on Open-Source software and open standards.
Research results include the Jena Adaptable Modelling System (JAMS), a software for the development, application and analysis of modular structured environmental process models. Further, the River Basin Information System (RBIS) provides a web-based software platform for the management and dissemination of environmental information. Due to a close linkage to applied and often interdisciplinary research, development efforts in this area are guided by practically relevant challenges and are partially conducted in cooperation with industry partners.
